You bought a DAC — now what? Here is a step-by-step guide to connecting it to every common source, using TRASAM HD200, LP2 and LP1 PLUS as examples.
1. Connect to a PC or Mac (USB)
- Plug the USB-B cable into the DAC and a free USB port on your computer.
- Turn on the DAC. Your OS should detect it as a new audio device automatically.
- On Windows: right-click the speaker icon → Sound settings → select the DAC as output.
- On Mac: System Settings → Sound → Output → select the DAC.
For hi-res playback on Windows, install the official driver (available on each product page) and select 24-bit/768kHz in the sound settings.
2. Connect to a TV (Optical)
- Find the optical (TOSLINK) output on your TV.
- Connect an optical cable to the DAC’s optical input.
- On the TV: Settings → Sound → Audio Output → Optical / Digital Output.
- Set the TV to output PCM (not Dolby/DTS) for best stereo sound.
3. Connect to PS5 (USB or Optical)
- PS5 has no optical port. Use USB if your DAC supports USB audio input (the LP2 and HD200 do).
- Go to Settings → Sound → Audio Output → Output Device → USB Headset (DAC).
- Select “All Audio” and output format “Linear PCM”.
4. Connect to Xbox (Optical or HDMI extractor)
Xbox removed the optical port on Series S. Use a low-cost HDMI audio extractor that splits HDMI to optical, then plug optical into the DAC. This works with both Series S and Series X.
5. Connect a Phone (Bluetooth)
- Put the DAC in pairing mode (see manual).
- On your phone: Settings → Bluetooth → select the DAC.
- The HD200 and LP2 use LDAC / aptX HD for near-lossless wireless audio.
Quick Troubleshooting
- No sound from TV → check the TV output is set to PCM, not bitstream.
- USB not detected → try a different USB port, or install the driver.
- Low volume → check the DAC volume and the source volume separately.
